- Description: Most founders can write a strategy. What lets a vision become real is alignment between your people, your technology and your offerings, and all three trace back to one thing.
- Author: Marissa Brassfield

In nearly 20 years of helping entrepreneurs and business owners launch and grow mission-driven organizations, and coaching over 500 leaders on how to build a work and life they love, I've noticed one common theme: strategy is easy.

The founders I work with can usually sketch a credible plan in an afternoon. They know their market and they can name their next moves. Smart advisors hand them frameworks all year long.

Frankly, execution is easy, too. Between AI and human team members, it's faster and easier than ever to get an idea out into the world.

Alignment is what allows someone to actualize their vision and make it real in the world. And *this* is where I routinely see good entrepreneurs with good ideas lose momentum and stall.

## Where alignment lives

I look for alignment in three places. A leader can be strong in one area and completely unaware of a gap in another. We all have blind spots.

### Your people

These are stakeholders in the widest sense: your team and cofounders, your customers and clients, your investors and media partners. Every one of those relationships carries an energy. That energy either moves the vision forward, pulls it sideways, or sometimes, drags it backward.

One wrong-fit client takes attention cycles your team could have spent on your best clients. A wrong-fit partner can create drag instead of lift.

One of my clients has a recurring business healing. Her intention is to repel wrong-fit clients and team members. Every time a prospect no-shows on a sales call, she thanks the Divine for removing misalignment. Her business is growing steadily, and her team is engaged. Correlation does not imply causation, AND I don't believe in coincidences. (More on this in [wrong-fit clients falling away](https://www.liminalcatalyst.com/wrong-fit-clients-falling-away/).)

### Your technology

Your technology is in service of the mission and the people. Too many use AI to replace human insight and experience, and the tools then become a layer of distortion and distraction.

I run AI-native businesses and build with AI every day, so I say this as someone who genuinely enjoys these tools: Even the approaches used to create efficiencies inside your business, like AI, can sometimes create more administrative burden, hassle, and friction than they remove.

In many organizations I coach, the 2-page leadership memo has now become the 10-page AI-prompted strategy document. When the tools create more work than they remove, that's a classic sign of misuse.

The question I ask about any tool: does it give me hours back for the work only I can do? I've written more about what to keep human-only here: [don't delegate your discernment](https://www.liminalcatalyst.com/dont-delegate-your-discernment/).

### Your offerings

The offerings themselves, how they're packaged, delivered, marketed, and sold, can carry values a founder wouldn't choose on purpose. Manipulation slips in through a countdown timer. Scarcity language shows up in a business built on abundance. Language gets weaponized to close a sale, and extraction takes the place where regeneration was meant to be.

Rarely is this a decision anyone made. It creeps in from a borrowed launch playbook or an advisor's formula, and your customers feel it even if they don't tell you about it.

## The one problem underneath

All of these things come down to one root cause, which is the simplicity and clarity of the founder's original vision.

When the vision is clear, the right partners intuitively recognize it, and choosing a tool or shaping an offer gets much easier, because every choice has something true to check against. When the vision is hazy, each decision gets harder to make, and the founder often starts compensating with more strategy.

Right now, founders are overscheduled, overwhelmed, and overstimulated. In that state, the vision gets quieter while the noise gets louder.

I've watched this pattern for most of my career. On a call back in 2021, I described the founders I was seeing this way: "They don't have that compass to come back to, and so they don't realize that they've been drifting two degrees off." Two degrees feels like nothing in a single week. A year later, you're running a different business than the one you set out to build.

## Coming back into alignment

Alignment comes back the way it drifted: one decision at a time.

Start with the vision in its simplest form. Can you say what your business is here to do in a sentence or two, in words your newest team member would repeat without notes to their partner or parent? If it takes a page, that page is telling you something.

Then look at what's pulling you. A question I've asked for years: What situations, relationships, or environments tend to pull you out of orbit?

Write down what comes up. You'll likely find each answer points to your people, your technology or your offerings.

Some of what you find, you'll fix with a conversation or a cleaner plan. Some of it sits deeper, in fear and doubt, or in other people's expectations you've carried so long they feel like your own.

My healings work at that layer. They support clarity of vision and next steps as confusion, brain fog and other people's conditioning clear away. Wrong-fit relationships and situations fall away, so you draw in the good and find yourself in the right place at the right time.

## If you're holding a decision right now

If a partner, a hire, a tool or an offer is on your mind this week, my Sounding Board Session is built for that moment. We meet one-to-one for 45 minutes. We start with where you are: what's working, and the decisions you're deliberating. I'll coach you to clarify your truth and define your next best steps. Afterward, I'll prepare an intuitively chosen healing to support you for the next 30 days.
